Terms of Service

These terms describe the conditions for using VCI Classifieds. Read them together with our Community Guidelines and the prices and conditions shown before you purchase a service.

1. Account signup and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, or Missouri to register. Provide accurate account information and a working email address, and keep those details current. An account may be suspended if its email address becomes non-functional. Each person is limited to one Classic account; the original allowance for multiple Pro accounts remains in place.

New accounts require confirmed payment before activation. Classic requires a one-time $5.99 registration payment. Plus and Pro start with payment for the selected membership term and do not require a separate Classic registration charge. A return from PayPal checkout, or a pending payment, does not by itself activate an account.

2. Memberships and optional purchases

Current prices and options lists the available membership terms, posting and photo allowances, Spotlight placements, attention getters, and banner packages. Review the selected product, price, and payment terms before paying. Optional advertising is separate from your membership payment.

Membership posting allowances apply over a rolling 25-day period. Renewing the same paid tier adds time after its current expiration if that term has not expired. Switching paid tiers starts the new term when payment is confirmed; unused time is not converted or automatically refunded. When a paid term expires, the account returns to Classic allowances.

Spotlight purchases cover a specified period in a shared rotation; they do not purchase a Top 25 position or guarantee a sale, reply, or number of views. Banner packages provide counted impressions rather than guaranteed sales. A counted banner impression requires at least half the banner to be visible for one second, or an advertiser-link click; repeat views from the same browser/IP combination count at most once per five minutes. Banner display depends on approval, available balance, targeting, and placement availability.

For payment errors, disputed charges, or refund requests, contact VCI with your payment reference. Removing or rejecting content does not automatically issue a refund. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.

3. Account security and contact information

You are responsible for activity performed through your account and for protecting your sign-in credentials. Password recovery uses a time-limited, single-use reset link sent to your account email; VCI does not email your existing password. Contact VCI if you suspect unauthorized use.

Your account email is not displayed in public listings. Including contact details in an ad exposes them to visitors who have not been verified. Registration and payment do not guarantee that another user is trustworthy. Investigate listings and users before relying on them or completing a transaction.

The service uses account and activity records, including IP addresses, for administration and security. Banner delivery also uses a derived browser/IP identifier to limit repeat impression counting. Town-targeted banners use a signed-in member’s selected search town or profile town; signed-out visitors may see advertisers from any town. No IP-derived town is currently used for advertising.

4. Listings, renewal, and archives

Place ads in an appropriate category. Do not repost or renew an ad early to move it ahead of others; use renewal when it reaches its renewal period, normally 25–30 days. Listings normally expire after 30 days unless renewed, or earlier if you choose an earlier expiration. Listing locations come from the owner’s profile ZIP code.

Expired or removed listings may be archived. Administrators can restore eligible archived listings, but restoration is not guaranteed. Renewal reminders may appear in the site or arrive by email; you remain responsible for keeping listings current even if a notification is not delivered or read.

5. Photos

Upload relevant photos using the site’s upload controls. Current uploads accept JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF files up to 25 MB each, subject to validation and processing. Classic supports up to 3 photos per ad, Plus 6, and Pro 9. Existing larger galleries may be retained after a membership change. The old HTML-based image and video instructions no longer apply.

Unused photos older than 61 days may be removed from your account’s photo library and held in an administrator-only archive for an additional 30 days. During that window, administrators may restore them. After the retention period they may be permanently deleted. Photos referenced by retained active or archived listings are protected from this unused-photo cleanup. Keep your own copies; the site is not a personal photo backup service.

6. Messages and notifications

Use on-site messaging to contact buyers and sellers. An unread message may trigger an email reminder after 15 minutes. Optional push notifications require permission and a supported browser or device. Delivery and timing are not guaranteed; check your messages directly. Carrier email-to-SMS notifications are not supported.

You are responsible for the messages you send. The conduct and content rules below apply to messages as well as listings, photos, and banners.

7. Conduct and prohibited content

Treat other participants respectfully. You are responsible for your own conduct, all content posted or transmitted through your account, and your interactions with other users. VCI does not guarantee the accuracy, integrity, or quality of user content or make representations about another user’s conduct. Perform appropriate investigation before relying on a listing or another person.

Content should be appropriate for families. Prohibited content includes:

• Illegal content or content facilitating illegal goods or services.
• Defamatory, threatening, hateful, pornographic, or otherwise offensive material.
• Another person’s private, confidential, or proprietary information.
• False, fraudulent, or misleading listings or responses.
• Malware, spyware, or other malicious content.
• Ads involving live animals—wanted, free, for sale, lost, or found—except for accounts specifically pre-authorized by VCI.

8. Moderation

VCI has the right, but not the obligation, to review and regulate account details, listings, banners, photos, and other submitted content. Staff may remove inappropriate content or suspend accounts without prior notice. VCI may start, stop, or modify enforcement measures at its discretion. A decision to act or not act on one incident does not waive the right to act on later or similar incidents.

9. Responsibility and indemnification

You are responsible for the ads and other content you submit and for your reliance on content provided by others. VCI does not control user submissions and does not guarantee their accuracy, integrity, or quality. To the extent permitted by applicable law, VCI is not liable for errors or omissions in ads, or loss or damage resulting from use of user-posted content.

You agree to indemnify and hold VCI Classifieds and its representatives harmless from third-party claims, causes of action, demands, or damages arising from your conduct or activities on, through, or related to the service, including activity through your account. As in the original terms, this obligation includes attorneys’ fees and costs incurred by VCI or its representatives, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
